The Avengers: Age of Ultron FACTS

  • Since Scarlett Johansson was pregnant during the filming, three stunt doubles were hired. But the other actors had a tough time recognizing Scarlett Johansson from the stunt doubles. Chris Evans (Captain America) even started a conversation with one of them and didn’t realize his mistake until halfway.
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Quicksilver who was also featured in X-Men: Days of Future Past. There were legal issues between Marvel and Fox due to this and was resolved after Marvel agreed not to mention the word “mutant” and the fact Magneto was Quicksilver’s father (as per the comics). Incidentally, Evan Peters, who played Quicksilver in X-Men, and Aaron Taylor played best friends in Kick Ass, another comic book movie).
  • Joss Whedon wanted the Thor pool scene to be longer so the producers asked him to choose between it and Hawkeye farm scene. Whedon chose the latter.
  • Iron Man’s Hulk-buster suit is called Veronica. This is a nod to Archie’s comics. Archie is torn between two girls, Betty and Veronica. Bruce Banner had a girlfriend called Betty and hence, the armour was called Veronica, a contrast to his Hulk personality.
  • Quicksilver’s running was shot twice, first with ultra high speed camera and then the actor running at regular speed and then the crew digitally spliced the two scenes together.
  • The African country where The Avengers encounter the villain is called Wakanda and is ruled by Black Panther who would be introduced in Captain America: Civil War and will have a solo film in 2018.
  • When Tony Stark lifts Thor’s hammer, he says that he plans to re-institute Prima Noctis. This was a medieval law that allowed the lord to spend the first night with the bride in his dominion. This was also featured in Braveheart.
  • The original plan by Whedon was to send Hulk to the space by the end of the film and that he would be found by Guardians of the Galaxy, thus connecting the Guardians with the Avengers. The producers did not agree to his plan.
  • The original draft had Ultron being created by the government to eliminate the need for Avengers and when it turns against its creators, the Avengers teaming up to stop him. However, the issues Ultron created in the film would lead the government to take actions against the superheroes in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. There are other nods to the upcoming film like Captain’s and Stark’s argument during the wood chopping scene and their brief fight before Vision is created.
  • The shooting in Korea happened in Gangnam district. The cast and crew danced to Gangnam style during breaks.
